Ashai Design Master Planning Five World Islands in Dubai
Los Angeles, Ca. June 25, 2008 – Los Angeles based designer/architect Tony Ashai and Ashai Design Corporation have been hired to master plan and design five man-made islands off the coast of Dubai in a project known as ‘The World’.
The World is regarded as one of the most ambitious construction undertakings of modern times. Designed and built by Nakeel, Dubai’s premier development company, the 300 man-made islands have been constructed out of reclaimed sand and rock to resemble a world map. Located 4km off the coast of Dubai and measuring 9kms wide by 7kms long, the project is so large that it can be easily spotted from space.
Two of the five islands that are being designed by Tony are being combined into a single island with a large connecting marina that has been designed specifically for large-scale yachts. The upscale residential community will feature luxurious residences, access to private beaches and exclusive services provided by a private clubhouse and their staff.
“We are creating an ‘oasis’ in the middle of the ocean, an Italian oasis with private villas that look like they have been there for centuries. They will be impeccably designed to suitably compliment the grandiosity of the world islands,” said Ashai.
When asked about other islands in The World, Tony explained:
“We are currently master planning three more island communities in The World incorporating different themes into each of the projects. Having the ability to design these living environments from the ground up it an amazing experience. Once completed, The World will indeed be a wonder of the world.”
